Who We Are

At Md Stump Removal, we take stump grinding seriously—because your yard deserves a clean slate! Our team of professionals is dedicated to transforming your outdoor space and removing those pesky stumps that just won't quit.

Maryland Stump Removal will use a tiered pricing system based on stump diameter, root complexity, and cleanup services. This ensures fair pricing for customers. All jobs require an on-site final quote before work can begin.

What are the hardest trees to grind?

Hickory

Reason: This wood is particularly dense (Janka ~1,820 lbf), featuring a robust taproot and strong lateral roots. Problem: It quickly wears down grinder teeth, especially if the roots have infiltrated rocky or compacted soil.

Black Locust

Reason: Incredibly hard (Janka ~1,700 lbf) and resistant to rot, Black Locust stumps remain solid for many years after cutting. Problem: Its roots tend to sucker aggressively, so you might grind the stump only to discover shoots emerging around it later.

American Hornbeam

Reason: This wood is very tough, heavy, and sinewy, with bark often covered in ridges that can trap dirt and dull grinder teeth. Problem: While its diameter is smaller than that of oaks, it is disproportionately difficult to grind.

Oak

Reason: Oaks are extremely dense (White Oak ~1,360 lbf) with extensive root systems and heavy lateral roots. Problem: Grinding them fully takes considerable time, and if left unattended, they can resprout or take years to decompose.

Sweetgum

Reason: Though not the densest wood (Janka ~850 lbf), its fibrous, stringy root system is notorious for clogging grinders. Problem: The roots spread widely and sucker, leading to sprouts even after grinding.

Black Walnut

Reason: Moderately hard (Janka ~1,010 lbf) with a significant, deep taproot. Problem: Even when the stump is removed, sections of the taproot can remain buried deep below the grinding depth.
